What to eat and what to do in ANGUILLA!

{One of the prettiest settings in the Caribbean @ the Straw Hat}

If I could fly anywhere in the Caribbean... just to eat.... it would be to Anguilla. That is the one island where I've never had a bad bite! Restaurants come and go - but right now, here are my favorites:
Jacala - great for lunch, upscale but mellow with a priceless view.

Smokeys - great for lunch, live music, cool mix of locals + tourists. (Remember my last visit to Smokeys?)

Blanchard's - I think this is the only one you will need reservations for as it is considered the "best" restaurant on the island by many.

Straw Hat - Reservations might be a good idea here too.

I also suggest going to the Viceroy for sunset cocktails at their amazing sunset bar - the architecture of this hotel is stunning.

What to do in Anguilla? Enjoy these Anguilla Activities:
For a night out, visit Elvis' Bar in Sandy Ground - a great mix of locals + tourists... very low key, toes in the sand sort of evening, live music, and will give you a good glimpse at the local scene.

Take a day trip to Silly CayOr to Sandy Island.

Here are a few more ideas on the Anguilla Tourist Board website.

ZaZaa is my favorite boutique on the island. Shop on!

Malliouhana Resort & Spa in Anguilla

Malliouhana Hotel & Spa has been regarded as one of the finest resorts in the Caribbean since its opening in 1984. Perched atop a panoramic bluff overlooking the Caribbean and reaching down to the white sands of Meads Bay and Turtle Cove beaches, the resort blends the understated European elegance of service, comfort and fine dining, with the warmth and hospitality of the Caribbean.

This is my favorite area of the Malliouhana... the open air bar & lounge:

Each room and suite is extraordinarily spacious and appointed with the finest luxuries such as Italian marble bathrooms. Spread throughout the property - in the main house, in villas, on the beach, on the bluff and in the gardens - all are decorated with rich, dark walnut, rattan furnishings and colorful Haitian artwork.

The 15,000-square-foot oceanfront spa with therapists from around the world providing more than 65 individual treatments, from Ayurvedic, Asian and European traditions. Spa Cuisine at Malliouhana features rejuvenating dishes drawing on fresh, natural ingredients. Fitness facilities with men's and women's sauna and steam room, outdoor Jacuzzi, three fresh-water pools. Windsurfing and water skiing, sunfish, Laser sailboats and Prindle Catamarans.  Four lighted championship tennis courts,  half-court basketball, children's supervised outdoor playground on the beach including a pirate ship, 60-foot water slide, toddlers’ pool, ping-pong table, TV and video games.  Private motor launch to a deserted bay for snorkeling.

The best part of any Hotel in Anguilla is the beach... stunning...

Michel Rostang Restaurant at Malliouhana, recipient of many international awards, is under the guidance of Parisian Michelin two-star chef, Michel Rostang, and serves classic Mediterranean cuisine infused with local flavors. Home to the Caribbean's largest wine cellar, with over 25,000 bottles, Malliouhana is proud to hold the coveted "Wine Spectator Grand Award" consecutively since 1999. Le Bistro, is casual pool and beach-side restaurant.

See all of my photos from Malliouhana on our Flickr page.

How to get to Anguilla?

Most of my clients ask "How do we get to Anguilla?" before we even begin looking at Anguilla accommodation options.

American Eagle does fly directly into Anguilla from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Flight times are limited and the price is high. This leads most visitors to fly into St. Maarten, and take a ferry or small plane over to Anguilla.

{The view from my June ride on GB Express!}

My preferred ferry provider is GB Express. They are very reliable and reply quickly to any questions you might have. Recently, I booked a clients to spend a week on Anguilla and a week on St. Barths and GB was able to assist me in coordinating the Anguilla ferry with the St. Barths ferry and made my job so much easier! {Thank you, Cara!} Rates for GB Express start at $35/per person, each way. Click here to view their schedule.

I usually recommend my clients take the ferry one direction and if they can afford it, fly another direction. {as long as you aren't afraid of small planes} On my recent trip, I few with Anguilla Air Services and they too were super reliable and helpful. Rates start at $80/per person, each way. Check out their schedule here.

I highly recommend a small plane transfer because it will double as a sightseeing tour and give you a bird's eye view of the Caribbean. Below is one of my favorite shots - and click here for more. Stay tuned - I'll be posting a video of my flight soon!

As a full service travel company, all of our agents at CaribbeanJourney.com are able to book your entire vacation package to Anguilla - international airfare to St. Maarten, ferry and/or small plane charter, and resort or villa accommodations. Just another reason why you should use a Travel Agent.

We look forward to hearing from you! 866-236-1924 or info@caribbeanjourney.com

Happy travels,

Meads Bay Villas in Anguilla

I just booked a client for 10 nights at this lovely little collection of 4 private villas on Meads Bay Beach in Anguilla and I must say, I am supremely jealous. Anguilla is tops on my list and Meads Bay Beach is my favorite beach on the island.

Each one of the Meads Bay Beach Villas is 1700 square feet. Villa # 1 is closet to the sand with the other 3 staggered back from this unit.

The property is lushly landscaped and the interiors are well appointed with high-quality furnishings:

It can be said, that one of the reasons this property has such a high return guest rate is because of the staff. Miss Delta is famous for her Caribbean hospitality:

After a long day on the sand... retire to your villa and enjoy your private pool:

Jump on over here to see more photos from my visit.

Meads Bay is my favorite because some of the best restaurants are located on this beach such as the Straw Hat & Blanchards.

Enjoy,

Resort Tour of Frangipani Beach Resort in Anguilla

This is my favorite photo from my visit to Frangipani Beach Resort. I don't think there could be a more perfect seaside dining experience... turquoise water, white linen, and cabana lights. I'd love to recreate this look at my house... but sadly without the turquoise water, it just wouldn't be the same.

These lovely tables belong to the Straw Hat Restaurant. A longtime top rated restaurant on the island enjoying its new home at Frangipani. How does a Gratineed Potato & Goat Cheese Salad with local tomatoes and balsamic reduction sound? Or Red Curry Prawns? Seriously good eats!

Steps from the restaurant is the perfect beach... so perfect it looks like a postcard - but this is my shot from my little camera:

And if you feel the urge to move off the beach, there is a huge pool to enjoy:

All of the hotel rooms at Frangipani have been recently renovated with muted tones and contrasting dark wood:

Luxurious touches have been added to every bathroom:

With full kitchens, Frangipani is a great choice for families or couples wanting to cook a few of their own meals:

And if not.... there's always the Straw Hat:

The Frangipani Beach Resort is one of the best values in Anguilla. It is a smaller, more intimate hotel and loved as much for its peace & quiet as it is for its spectacular beach location. We'd love to book your vacation to Anguilla at Frangipani Beach Resort! Drop us a line... info @ caribbeanjourney.com.

Stay tuned for our post on How to Get to Anguilla... we will cover all of the ferry options, private charter flights, and the most convenient flights from Puerto Rico on American Airlines!
